I just came off a 90-day restriction of my Facebook account for wrongthink and wrongspeak. That was in addition to several multiple-day bans, all for things like talking about stabbing myself in the eye with a fork (as the reaction to something truly gross that was shown to me by Facebook itself). I also said that women were not as strong physically as men, and oh boy, they didn’t like that either. I may not be a biologist but I do know a few things about muscle- and bone-density, but apparently mentioning that is also verbotten.
During that 90-days I was pushed down in the feed and I didn’t get a single reaction from anyone who was not already a “friend.” My posts were all, in essence, suppressed either because a comment was caught up in some algorithm (including humorous banter with a friend that used the phrase, “Bring it, bitch.”) or because someone was offended and reported it. Facing your accuser may not apply to social media, but it really should. I wonder how many would have the guts to face me rather than hide behind Facebook’s skirts and do it anonymously like some Soviet informant? Not many I bet.
The point of posting on Substack instead is to stop supporting a platform that hates both you and me.
